Looking for the Voids - Teaching
Navigating the In-Between was a Master Design Studio and research seminar taught at the University of Hong Kong, investigating the architectural potential of liminal urban spaces. Focusing on thresholds between public and private, formal and informal, built and unbuilt, the course explored how residual spaces function as active components of the city. Set along the edges of Hong Kong’s country parks and dense urban fabric, students examined buffer zones where architecture could reconnect with processes of adaptation, appropriation, and transformation. Through site observation, drawing, modeling, and iterative design, the course developed spatial frameworks that embraced ambiguity and transition as generative tools for contemporary architectural practice.
