Peng Chau Island - Publication

Peng Chau under the Magnifying Glass: The Suburban Mechanism of an Outlying Island within the Hong Kong Metropolitan Area is a research publication that examines Peng Chau as a peripheral territory shaped by metropolitan pressures, infrastructural constraints, and everyday practices. Through mapping, spatial analysis, drawings, and field observation, the publication investigates how suburban mechanisms operate within an outlying island context. Rather than approaching Peng Chau as a static heritage site, the research reveals it as a dynamic and evolving territory, where informal adaptations, mobility patterns, and local economies negotiate the relationship between island life and the broader metropolitan system of Hong Kong.
