Peng Chau Connecting Table - Design
“Connecting Table” was an installation designed for the Inter-Island Festival 2021, located on Peng Chau. The project explores the temporary occupation of urban voids through mobile furniture, transforming part of the island into a collective dining space. By deploying adaptable tables and seating, the project reimagines a buffer territory as a shared domestic landscape—a large open-air dining room. The intervention invites inhabitants to perceive the island as an extension of the home, where everyday rituals such as eating, meeting, and lingering unfold in public space. Rather than imposing permanent architecture, the project relies on flexibility and temporality to activate the site, testing how simple, reversible actions can foster social interaction and redefine the use of urban emptiness.
